The current Dărmăneşti place has its origins in pre-feudal period, being part of răzeşi settlements. It evolved many centuries as a place with a single central core village, surrounded by groups of households in meadow areas. Cities with the same name are also found in the counties of Suceava, Neamţ, Prahova, or Muscel. There were discussions about first documentary attestation. Dărmăneşti appears in official documents in the 16th – 17th centuries, during which Trotuş Valley was also populated by urban settlements (Adjud and Târgu Trotuş). The age of populating these areas around Trotuş and Uz rivers is high, being evidenced by the toponyms “Romanians’ spring” and “Uz”, the latter toponym coming from “Uzi”, a Pechenegs tribe, demonstrating that migratory people who crossed our territories made full use of the Carpathian passes.
The population in the area withdrew from their settlements into the mountains, not to face its migrators, returning after in the area of Uz River Valley, where they founded Dărmăneşti village, whose name comes from their leader, DARMAN.
The toponym Dărmăneşti appears registered in old maps along with other settlements, during the period of ruler Dimitrie Cantemir. Friederich von Bawr (1781) determined that Dărmăneşti is settled at the mouth of Uz River, consisting of 11 households, linear placed, on the left side of the river. The village has seen an evolution in time and space, which in 1989, was among the settlements that gained city status.
